The AK-74U is a compact assault rifle designed by Soviet small arms designer Mikhail Kalashnikov in the late 70’s, and war originally aimed at Vehicle Crews, because of it’s compact size. The U stands for “Ukorochenniy”, which is Russian for “shortened”. The real steel version is chambered for the 5.45×39mm cartridge, which replaced the 7.62×39mm cartridge of Kalashnikov’s earlier automatic weapons for the Soviet armed forces.
